Why We Built Malaysia’s First Smart Recycling Station — The Problem in Johor Bahru

In early 2025, Terra Green identified a major challenge in Johor Bahru : Community recycling facilities were limited, outdated, inconsistent, and lacking proper data tracking.

• Facilities overflowed often

• Collections were inefficient

• Users found it inconvenient to recycle

So in August 2025, instead of waiting for change, our team decided to build Malaysia’s Smart Recycling Station ourselves.

From design, engineering, software, hardware, testing, and deployment — Terra Green created the first-generation RecyLink Smart Recycling Station, fully developed in-house.

Within months, 4 units were launched across multiple JB communities, strengthening access to recycling and laying the foundation for digital environmental reporting.
